Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of “The Windmill at Wijk bij Duurstede”of 1670 by Jacob van Ruisdael. The details of the painting are remarkable to the extent of the aeronautical engineering in the windmill’s sails and the river’s waves. There is a purposeful harmony between the river bank and the sails as well as contrasts between light and shadow working with concentrations of mass and space. The artist was about forty-one years old when he painted the work and enjoyed good demand in the Dutch Republic where he worked out of Amsterdam. He was died twelve years after this creation in 1682. This masterpiece is an oil on canvas measuring 33 by 40 inches and is in the Amsterdam Museum.
