Nocturne In Black And Gold #1
Artist
James A M Whistler
Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
This is a reproduction of James A. M. Whistler's Nocturne in Black and Gold - The Falling Rocket of about 1875. This was acclaimed as an exemplar of the movement, Art for Art's Sake, when it was exhibited in 1877 at the Gosvenor Gallery in London. It is a depiction of the industrial city park by the Cremorne Gardens in London. Its display began the famous lawsuit between Whistler and the art critic John Ruskin. It is considered the peak of Whistler's middle period.
